Shear-wave propagation in rocks and other lossy media: An experimental study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Ultrasonic shear-wave propagation studies have been carried out for the measurements of velocity and attenuation in some rocks, concrete and synthetic materials at room conditions. It has been found that ‘pulse broadening’, which occurs due to attenuation, can be measured quite accurately while carrying out shearwave velocity measurements in them. The pulse broadening data could be used to determine the quality factor from which the shear-wave attenuation is computed using the standard relationships between velocity, attenuation and quality factor. The measurement technique is briefly described and the results obtained are presented and discussed.

With the rapid growth of indoor wireless communication systems, the need to accurately model radio wave propagation inside the building environments has increased. Many site-specific methods have been proposed for modeling indoor radio channels. Among these methods, the ray tracing algorithm and the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are the most popular ones. The ray tracing approach ...

Wave propagation is used as an advanced tool of determining elastic properties of rocks. In spite of being cheap and non destructive tests of rock mechanics, due to its modernity method is not yet replacing the traditional dear and destructive tests. In order to pave ways of replacing this test and making best use of it all effective factors of such method are to be assessed. One fundamental fa...
متن کاملA Study of Electromagnetic Radiation from Monopole Antennas on Spherical-Lossy Earth Using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method
Radiation from monopole antennas on spherical-lossy earth is analyzed by the finitedifference time-domain (FDTD) method in spherical coordinates. A novel generalized perfectly matched layer (PML) has been developed for the truncation of the lossy soil. For having an accurate modeling with less memory requirements, an efficient "non-uniform" mesh generation scheme is used. Also in each time step...

The propagation of shear waves in an anisotropic fluid saturated porous layer over a prestressed semi-infinite homogeneous elastic half-space lying under an elastic homogeneous layer with irregularity present at the interface with rigid boundary has been studied. The rectangular irregularity has been taken in the half-space. The dispersion equation for shear waves is derived by using the pertur...

In this paper, the wave propagation approach is presented to analyze the vibration and wave power reflection in FG rectangular plates based on the first order shear deformation plate theory. The wave propagation is one of the useful methods for analyzing the vibration of structures. This method gives the reflection and propagation matrices that are valuable for the analysis of mechanical energy...
